Third Grade
The third grade just returned from their first field trip to
Coney Island for the Fall-o-Ween festival where they were
exposed to pioneer living. Mr. Chris Schreiber from PNC
bank came and talked to all the third grade homerooms about
banking, interest, saving money, etc… This was incorporated
into their reading cluster called Dollars and Sense. The
students also used a program on the internet where they were
able to design their own dollar bill. The third graders
learned the importance of money, saving money, and spending
wisely. They also have learned what interest is and why it
is important to keep your money safe like in a bank. They
are all excited about their visit by Joe Fischer and Katie
Stein to talk to them about the upcoming election and the
government. Their next reading cluster is called “Smart
Solutions”. In this unit, they will be discussing different
ways of solving problems. They will be reading nonfiction,
fantasy, realistic fiction and historical fiction with this
cluster. Incorporated into this unit the students will be
learning about nouns, common and proper, and possessive. In
math, they are adding and subtracting whole numbers, and
then they will learn about linear measurements and area.
