Fourth Grade

The fourth graders are still reading the book Winn Dixie. Some skills they are working on include cause and effect, similes and metaphors, theme, compare and contrast.  They are learning about compound and complex sentences in English.  In spelling, they will be working on the j sound and dropping the final silent e when adding some suffixes.  In math, they are working on different methods of addition and subtraction, and they will begin multiplication shortly.  In social studies, Mrs. Shields has assigned a geography project called “Create Your Own Island”. Students will show their mastery of different geography terms while working on this project. They are also talking about government and the election. On Oct 6, Stine and Fisher came to talk to grades 3-8.  On Oct. 24, they will have a voting booth for everyone to cast their ballots.
