Grade School Enrollment Policy

As a parish school, we have a primary responsibility to provide the children of our parish community the opportunity to attend Saint Joseph School. We are also sensitive to the desires of other families who wish to attend our school.

To that end, we have established the following priority guidelines for enrollment at St. Joseph School.

1. It is required that no classroom for grades 1 – 2 shall exceed 25 pupils and no classroom for grades 3 – 8 shall exceed 30 pupils. No grade level shall exceed 90 pupils.
2. No child will be admitted to school without proper certification of immunization.
3. The student registration date deadline for St. Joseph School is March 1st of the same year that the student is to be enrolled.  Any students currently enrolled in the school will be accepted the following year, provided they register by March 1st for the following school year. This applies to all students, including kindergarten.

Any registration received after March 1st will be considered late and will be subject to Section 4 of the Enrollment Policy.  Open registration will be from March 2nd – July 1st.

Any registration received after July 1st, will be subject to Section 5 of the Enrollment Policy.
4. If it is determined that St. Joseph School has no other choice but to limit enrollment, the Selection Process for non-enrolled students is to be followed.

a. First Priority
First Priority is to be given to active parishioners1 who live in the parish boundaries2 or are registered in the parish before July 1st, 1999 and have children who are attending or have graduated from St. Joseph School.  Priority will be given to active parishioners who have been registered the longest.
b. Second Priority
Second Priority is to be given to any St. Joseph employee who is an active parishioner.  Priority is given to the employee who has been employed the longest.
c. Third Priority
Third Priority is to be given to those active parishioners who reside in the boundaries of Saint Joseph Parish or were registered in the parish before July 1st, 1999.  Priority will be given to active parishioners who have been registered the longest.
d. Fourth Priority
Fourth Priority is to be given to active parishioners who reside outside the parish boundaries and have children who are attending or have graduated from St. Joseph School.  Priority will be given to the parishioners who have been registered the longest.
e. Fifth Priority
Fifth Priority is to be given to active parishioners who reside outside the parish boundaries.
f. Sixth Priority
Sixth Priority is to be given to non-active parishioners and other registrants.
5. If there is capacity after July 1st for students enrolled after the registration deadline, application and acceptance will be on a “first come, first serve” basis.
6. Parishioners by definition are to include active parishioners of St. John Parish in Wilder, Kentucky.
7. St. Joseph School requires a registration fee of $25.00 per student.  This must be included with the registration application. Should a family not be in a financial position to pay this fee at the time of registration, they must meet with the principal prior to the registration deadline to make other arrangements.  If this is not done until after the registration deadline, the registration application will be considered late.  The registration fee will be applied to the student (s) book bill (s).   The registration fee is not refundable.
8. A committee of the pastor, the school principal and appointed member of the Board of Total Catholic Education at St. Joseph Parish will interpret and/or arbitrate any discussions or disputes concerning this policy.
9. Any appeal regarding the decision on admission must be made in writing to the pastor.

1 Active membership includes sharing in the Sunday liturgy and stewardship of time talent and treasure in St. Joseph Parish, Cold Spring.
2 Parish boundaries are to include the cities of Cold Spring, Crestview, Highland Heights and Wilder.  These boundaries apply to parishioners who have registered in the parish after July 1st, 1999.  Specific details are on file in the school and/or parish office.
