| 1870 |
The Parish was established. |
| 1882 |
The first church, a small frame structure, was built. |
| 1882-1892 |
A parish school, a frame structure, was opened within the next few years.
A Brother of Mary, Brother Joseph Merschmann, who lived at St. Joseph
Orphanage and later ordained a priest, was the first teacher.
|
| 1882-1892 |
A church to supplement the frame church was built. Clay for the bricks was dug
from around the church and bricks were baked in a kiln near the site. That church
lasted until December 1960. The cost of the church was $5,500.00.
|
| 1892 |
A two-story school was built to replace the original one. |
| circa 1929 |
A one-story brick building was erected on a large campus about a
quarter of a mile south of the church, which is our present old school building.
|
| 1948 |
Monsignor Leinheuser became pastor. One of his first actions was to once again
build a new school. The parish was increasing with the addition of many new homes and subdivisions.
The number of children was over 200. There were four Sisters of Notre Dame and each
taught a double grade. The seventh/eighth grade teacher was also the principal.
Many plans for additions or a Quonset hut were submitted, but the pastor wanted a new building.
Thus the fourth school building came into being.
|
| 1949 |
Ground was broken for the new school by the pastor on November 21. With the future of the parish
in mind, 23 more acres were purchased. The new building was located close to the old and enough
land was acquired for future expansion. The gym/auditorium was included and the school was
designed so more classrooms could be added.
